I was attracted to EMD Serono because it had tremendous potential with an intense commitment to improving patient care and it offered multiple opportunities for personal and corporate growth. Since I joined the EMD Serono team, I’ve witnessed the realization of that potential every day in all aspects of what we do.
EMD Serono gives me the resources I need to succeed in an incredibly dynamic environment, including the LEAD Academy, a “corporate university” that provides opportunities for learning, education, advancement and development. As a member of the Clinical Trial Management group, I have the opportunity to work toward improving the lives of patients with multiple sclerosis, including being a part of post-approval clinical trials and patient registries that help to provide a real-world view of clinical practice, patient outcomes and comparative effectiveness of EMD Serono products. I feel fortunate to be part of a team that gives me the opportunity to find solutions to patients’ needs while challenging me to advance my own skills and knowledge.

I strive to produce high-quality scientific research, to be an effective communicator, and to be a true team player, all with the goal of contributing to the success of my company.  I was attracted to EMD Serono because it offered me both the opportunity to live these ideals and also the employee benefits to maintain excellent work-life balance. Everyone at EMD Serono maintains the highest degree of integrity in everything they do, creating an environment in which each member of the team always puts the needs of patients first.  Starting a new job right after I had become a new mother could have been a real challenge, but EMD Serono’s culture and employee benefits enable me to meet both my professional and personal goals.

At EMD Serono, there is a strong collaborative working relationship between the sales management team and the marketing team. There’s a sense of respect, trust and shared commitment to doing our best for the patients, and that fosters collegiality and cooperation, even among groups that may approach the same challenge from different perspectives. There's a culture of respect for other people's ideas, and we recognize that the more we encourage people to think about new ideas, the more creative and effective the organization will be as a whole. Initially, I was attracted to EMD Serono because it provided the opportunity to work with a team of dedicated and professional people. Working with this team continues to be the most gratifying aspect of my role at the company.

In early 1992, I began working at a small company that would eventually become the EMD Serono Research Center. Since that time, I’ve had an opportunity to work on diverse aspects of the drug development process, including biochemical research, screening of chemical libraries, manufacturing investigational drugs for clinical trials, working on regulatory affairs and heading up the team that discovers new antibody-based therapies. These experiences have given me a broad understanding of what it takes to innovate new therapies and helped me to develop a deep appreciation for the incredible personnel and technologic resources we have here at EMD Serono Research Center.

Today, we are using molecular biology techniques and molecular modeling algorithms that I couldn’t even imagine in 1992. EMD Serono Research Center has never hesitated to incorporate cutting edge-science into our drug development programs, and I think that’s a key factor in our ability to innovate products that improve patients’ lives.

When I joined EMD Serono in 2006, I had been working with the company as outside legal counsel for over seven years. So I knew the company was a leader in biotechnology and had a fast-paced and dynamic work culture. Joining EMD Serono gave me the opportunity to be part a great team and to challenge myself and grow professionally. The legal team at EMD Serono helps to ensure that the company applies the highest legal and ethical standards to all of our business activities. We must have the courage to speak up and voice our opinions on a range of issues, which can be a challenge. But, we know that people’s health and safety are at stake and there is a special satisfaction that comes from the knowledge that we are helping to make a fundamental difference in peoples’ lives.
